Importing and Exporting news and updates

There have been a few updates from HMRC recently for businesses that import and / export goods to and from the UK. Take a look at our blog below for more information.

New HMRC service to manage import duties and VAT accounts

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) have published guidance on a new online service to help businesses with their import duties and VAT accounts. If you or your business are involved in importing goods into England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, you can use the new service to:

  • Get your import VAT statements and certificates
  • Manage your payment accounts
  • Manage or view authorities.

This new service should help to bring everything you need into one place. To use the service, you need to have a Government Gateway user ID and password, and you must be subscribed to the Customs Declaration service. If you need any help registering with HMRC, please do not hesitate to contact us. For more information and to log in, please click here.

New resources on learning to export

The Department for Business & Trade has made available learning resources for businesses to help with what is involved with exporting. These resources are designed both for new and experienced exporters.  The resources cover:

  • Learning how to identify opportunities abroad and find the best target markets
  • Preparing to sell into a new country, such as how to find customers and win bids
  • Understanding international rules and how to get your goods to their destination
  • Learning how to raise funds, get paid and manage exchange rates.

There is an opportunity to sign up and gain some additional benefits.

Exporting can also involve additional Customs and VAT requirements. If you need any help with this or would like to discuss your plans, please feel free to contact us.
